Temple gate at Angkor, Cambodia   TONY HOBBS HOME PAGE

Hi!   Thanks for visiting.

Lately I've been the CEO of an indigenous natural resource management outfit in far north Queensland. Before that I was working on solar power systems in remote indigenous communities. From 2008 to 2010 I worked at a health service organisation in Ratanakiri, a remote province of the Kingdom of Cambodia near the Vietnam and Laos borders, training staff and managing projects with the 'montagnard' tribes.

My travels in the past few years have included Malaysia, the Philippines, a long loop through Thailand, Laos (travelling by longboat up small rivers and trekking to tiny villages), Vietnam (my least favourite part of the region), Cambodia (great beach life at Sihanoukville), and a few breaks in Indonesia and the mainland.

In the last few years I've also been to England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Myanmar, Singapore, and every mainland state in Australia. My experiences include a firework studded Indonesian New Year's Eve, a water splattered Thai Songkran festival, canyoning down waterfalls in Cebu, and munching on barbecued rat and frog, fried and stewed dog and the odd invertebrate.

I've travelled in Belgium, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, Egypt, France, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, UK, USA, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
When not travelling I contract on projects in aid and development, auto design, banking and government and the odd job for my own consultancy.
I chronicled my Cambodia life in a blog.
I worked for 2 years in Zimbabwe - it seems a lifetime ago! - you can read about life as a murungu (a what?) in my Tales from the Veldt, and see pictures in my photo gallery.
